On Wednesday, September 30, Mumbai reported 2,654 fresh cases of the coronavirus taking the COVID-19 tally in the city to 2,05,142 cases.

Moreover, the patient doubling rate in the city is 66 days whereas the recovery rate of the Mumbai district remains constant at 82 per cent.  In the last 24 hours, 46 people succumbed to the disease, as per reports. On the other hand, on September 29, 49 deaths were reported. Earlier, on September 28, a total of 40 people succumbed to the disease, according to the municipality.

Earlier on Wednesday, the state government had extended the lockdown in Maharashtra until October 31 besides easing the restrictions as part of the Mission Begin Again initiative. In the fifth phase of the unlock, the state government has permitted hotels, restaurants, food courts and bars to resume the dine-in services from October 5 with a maximum of 50 per cent capacity. Meanwhile, all trains originating and ending their journey within the state shall be restarted with immediate effect.

However, the state government continued stressing the use of face masks and sanitizers along with observing the social distancing norms. Moreover, any person flouting the rules can have legal action can be taken against them as per the provisions of Section 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act and Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
