A police constable posted at Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's official residence has reportedly tested positive.
The constable who has tested positive for COVID-19 was posted at 'Varsha', the official residence allotted to all Maharashtra CMs. However, CM Thackeray stays at 'Matoshree', which is the Thackeray family house in Bandra.
“A woman constable has tested positive for COVID-19. We have hospitalised her while contact-tracing is going on,” said a senior IAS official quoted by PTI.
The agency further reported that a constable who was earlier posted on duty at the former CM Devendra Fadnavis' residence tested positive. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the police constable was deployed at Sagar, the official residence for the leader of opposition in the state assembly.
As per a BMC official, he showed some symptoms on April 12 and after which, he was admitted to a hospital on April 14. His test report came out positive and following which, the civic body removed all the other police officials posted there and quarantined them.
Meanwhile, a few days back, it was reported that a tea vendor near Matoshree had tested positive for coronavirus. Looking at the critical condition in the state, more than 160 security staff from CM's team were tested for COVID-19.
On April 9, their test results came back and all the staff have tested negative. However, they were ordered home-quarantine for safety reasons.
As of April 22, 11:00 pm, Maharashtra has 5,469 coronavirus positive patients after 552 new cases emerged on Tuesday. 251 people in the state have succumbed to the disease so far. This includes 19 people who died on April 21. 12 of these people were from Mumbai, three from Pune, two from Thane, and one each in Sangli and Pimpri Chinchwad.
