With the appointment of a new contractor by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the construction for Hancock bridge has been started. Amid the construction work, the Railways have asked for new engineering techniques which have increased the project’s budget by ₹1.80 crore.

Earlier, BMC standing committee allocated ₹51.70 crore for the project. However, the amount has increased by almost ₹2 crore now. After Andheri Bridge Collapse, the railway authorities asked BMC to stop the construction of Hancock bridge in Mazgaon. Railway authorities said that the NOC (no-objection certificate) was not issued for the same.

However, with the appointment of new contractor – Sai Project – for the construction by Standing Committee, the work has started again. ₹51.70 crore has been allocated to Sai project to construct the British-era bridge.

Meanwhile, Central Railway has appointed ‘Rights Limited’ company to inspect the progress of the project. For this, the ₹1.8 crore have been added to the budget.
