Railway Safety Commission has cited that due to the absence of NOC, BMC is not allowed to construct the bridge

After the Gokhle bridge collapse in Andheri, Railway Authorities have halted the construction of Hancock Bridge in Mazgaon. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) was given responsibility for the same.

Earlier in January 2016, the Hancock bridge was declared dangerous and was demolished. However, in 2017, the Supreme Court allowed Mumbai’s Civic body to construct on condition of appointing a new company for the contract.

While talking about Andheri bridge collapse incident, BMC’s Shital Prasad Kori informed the standing committee regarding the same. Speaking about the Hancock bridge construction, Kori said that, for the first time, BMC had initiated any work under the jurisdiction of the railways.

However, the Railway Safety Commission has stopped the same citing that there is no NOC (Non-Objection Certificate) issued on this construction.
