COVID-19: 120 Mumbai Policemen Test Positive In Last 24 Hours

On Tuesday, January 11, another Mumbai Police personnel succumbed to COVID-19 and nearly 120 more personnel tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours, reports stated. 

With these updates in numbers, the number of active cases in the police department now stands at 643. According to narratives, nearly 125 policemen have succumbed to the virus so far, stated the police. According to reports, in the past nine days, 606 police personnel have been infected with the novel virus.

On the other hand, 164 police personnel that included Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar (MBVV) Commissioner Sadanand Date tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. 

In light of the rising cases in Maharashtrathe state government last weekend brought in certain curbs in place. These include:

  • Prohibition of movement in groups of five or more from 5 am to 11 pm effective from January 10 midnight. Movement isn't permitted in public from 11 pm to 5 am except for essential services.
  • Schools and colleges will be closed till February 15. 
  • At government offices, visitors will not be permitted except with the written permission of the office heads. 
  • Attendance at marriages, social, religious, cultural or political gatherings has been limited to 50. At funerals over 20 people cannot be present.
  • Shopping malls, market complexes can function at 50 per cent capacity till 10 pm. Only those fully vaccinated will be permitted to enter malls, shopping complexes.
  • Restaurants and eateries will operate at 50 per cent capacity till 10 pm.
  • Cinema theatres, drama halls will function at 50 per cent capacity.
  • Public transport can be used only by those fully vaccinated. 
  • Beauty salons, hair cutting salons, gyms are permitted to operate with 50 per cent capacity. Only those individuals who are fully vaccinated are allowed to utilize these services.
