
Central Railway’s Mumbai Division Ticket Checking Staff has registered remarkable Ticket Checking Earnings of INR 30.13 crores from 4.30 lakh cases of ticketless travel during the period April to May 2026 (FY 2026-27). This is against recovery of INR 12.02 crores from 2.75 lakh cases during the corresponding period last year, indicating a rise of more than 150 % in earnings and more than 56% in no of cases.
During the month of May an amount of INR 14 crores were recovered as penalty from 2.02 lakh cases of ticketless travel as against INR 5.95 crores from 1.30 lakh cases during the corresponding period last year, indicating a rise of more than 135 % in earnings and more than 56% in no of cases.
Cases in Mail/Express Sleeper & General Coaches and Suburban Second class coaches & recovery of penalty:
- For Financial Year 2026-27
Frequent ticket checking drives in Mail & Express trains and Suburban trains especially in second class coaches have proved effective with detection of 3.04 lakh cases during the period April to May 2026 against 2.02 lakh cases during the corresponding period last year registering an increase of more than 50 %.
An amount of Rs.24.77 crores were recovered as penalty during the period April to May 2026 as against Rs.10.12 crores during the corresponding period last year registering an increase of almost 145 %.

During the month of May an amount of Rs.11.71 crores were recovered as penalty from 1.46 lakh cases of ticketless travel as against Rs.5.09 crores from 97,046 cases during the corresponding period last year, indicating a rise of more than 130 % in earnings and more than 50% in no of cases.
AC locals:
Special ticket checking drives in AC locals conducted during the period April to May 2026, to curb cases of irregular travelling and ensure comfort of bonafide passengers have yielded encouraging results.
A total of 25,924 cases were detected in AC locals during the period April to May 2026 as against 21,081 cases during the corresponding period last year registering an increase of almost 23 %.
An amount of Rs.80.97 lakhs were recovered as penalty during the period April to May 2026 as against Rs.68.53 lakhs last year registering an increase of more than 18 %.
During the month of May an amount of Rs.41.31 lakhs were recovered as penalty from 13,226 cases of ticketless travel in AC locals as against Rs.34.15 lakhs from 10,661 cases during the corresponding period last year, indicating a rise of almost 21 % in earnings and more than 24% in no of cases.

From First class coaches - 23,447 cases & Rs.74.61 lakhs as penalty
From Difference of fares in Mail & Express trains - 58,748 cases & Rs.3.61 crores as penalty
From Unbooked Luggage - 17,000 cases & Rs.19.45 lakhs as penalty.
