The population of Mumbai has grown rapidly in the last few decades. At the same time, a large number of high rise buildings are being erected in place of chalws through redevelopment projects. Due to this, various challenges have started to arise in front of the system. After a fire breaks out in a high-rise building, the fire brigade has to face many problems to help.

Keeping this matter in mind, the administration has decided to make the fire brigade more capable. Sophisticated robots have been imported from France to fight fires from a safe distance. Five mini water tenders with a water mist system are included in the fleet for fire fighting in densely populated slums and narrow roads. Simultaneously, procurement of seven first response vehicles with hydraulic platform and high rise fire fighting system has been given and three of them have been successfully commissioned. The remaining four vehicles are likely to be inducted into the fire service by March 2025.

Along with this, the process of procurement of 11 first response fire vehicles with latest technology, four auxiliary vehicles with lighting and high pressure water pumps, six robotic life saving boys, 35 smoke extractors and bores etc. has been initiated.

Traffic on Mumbai Coastal Road (South) is likely to increase in future. Keeping this in mind, two new fire stations will be constructed near Mumbai Coastal Road (South Project). Also, new fire stations will be set up at Juhu Tara Road, Santacruz (W), Mahool Road, Chembur and Tilak Nagar.

Expected income of INR 759.18 crores

The fire brigade's projected income for the financial year 2024-25 is INR 301.02 crore, compared to the earlier estimate of INR 686.96 crore. This marks a 128.21% increase, amounting to INR 385.94 crore. As of December 31, 2024, the fire brigade has generated INR 480.33 crore in revenue. The expected income for the upcoming year stands at INR 759.18 crore.
