According to World Health Organisation (WHO), 68 per cent of the milk in India is adulterated and 87 per cent of Indians will develop cancer by 2025 if they continue to consume adulterated milk. Meanwhile, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) along with Mumbai Crime Branch on Wednesday cracked a milk adulteration racket in Mumbai’s Santacruz East.
After raiding two locations in Mumbai suburbs, Crime Branch’s unit-9 arrested four people in this matter including a woman and confiscated more than 1,075 litres of adulterated milk along with 6,900 empty milk packets ranging from various famous brands. In the past 15 days, two milk adulteration rackets have been exposed.
On September 26, in a joint operation, FDA and Crime Branch unit-9 raided at a house in Santacruz’s Subhash Nagar slum. Another raid was carried out in Santacruz’s Lokhandwala Chawl.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Joint Commissioner Shailesh Adhav informed that 151 litres of milk was seized from Lokhandwala Chawl and 920 litres milk was confiscated from Subhash Nagar slum. The total value of the confiscated and destroyed milk is ₹44, 982.
Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Desai from Crime Branch unit-9 said that the accused were handed over to Vakola police and further investigations are being conducted by the Crime Branch along with the Vakola police. The arrested accused include Parshuram Kammalapalli, Nagraj Medeboina, Krishna Kammalapalli, and Laxmi Medeboina.
