Everyone who travels from Mumbai-Pune to Khandala-Lonavala is aware of Maganlal Chikki, which is famous across Maharashtra. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) raided the sweets manufacturer on Tuesday and discovered that the Maganlal Food Company is in violation of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

After the raid, FDA has ordered Maganlal Chikki to stop the production and sale of their products, FDA Commissioner Pallavi Darade informed Mumbai Live. The raid was carried out by the Pune branch of FDA.

The Food Safety Act (FSA) directs the FDA to monitor and inspect the restaurants, stalls, private and government kitchens, production and sale of food products. The Chikki produced by the sweets manufacturer in Lonavala is in violation of the FSA which is playing with the life of the customers, informed Pune FDA Deputy Commissioner Suresh Deshmukh.

FDA further informed that the products manufactured by Maganlal company are not inspected while it is mandatory for the companies to monitor their products for quality before they are sold.

For companies, it is important to verify the food products in their own laboratories or get an approval by the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI). However, Maganlal Company failed to follow either of the protocols.
