On Wednesday, May 18, a digital valet parking facility commenced in Mumbai's Dadar. According to reports, the initiative has been undertaken in collaboration between the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai Police and the Dadar Vyapari Sangh.

Based on accounts, motorists can keep their vehicles with their phone numbers at a dedicated valet parking booth near Plaza Cinema. The vehicles will be taken into the Kohinoor Parking Lot. When the vehicle owners want to head back, they can click on a link sent via SMS to ask that their vehicle be dropped back near the Plaza Cinema.

It has been reported that for the first four hours, INR 100 will be charged. This will be followed by an additional INR 25 for every hour after that. The booth will be operated for 11 hours every day, by a start-up, Park+.

Narratives suggest that the digital valet parking services will soon be accessible at four more locations in Dadar as well as Shivaji Park once the first booth opens near Plaza Cinema.

Last year, during the festivities, the traders association had reportedly organised free valet parking for three months.

Reports claim that the BMC operates 29 Public Parking Lots, but these often see low footfalls, with motorists continuing to park on the roads.
