On Friday, December 3, Suresh Kakani, Additional Commissioner, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that two doctors and a nurse from Nair Hospital were suspended for the alleged medical negligence, reported news agency ANI.

It is claimed that owing to their negligence, a four-month-old baby succumbed after a delay in treatment following the BDD Chawl, gas cylinder blast. Kakani added that a committee has been formed to investigate the matter.

Additionally, he stated that action will be undertaken against the guilty. On Tuesday, November 30, a gas cylinder exploded at BDD Chawl in Worli at nearly 7.10 am.

Mumbai Mayor, Kishori Pednekar also stated that the Worli incident is disheartening. She apologized for the negligence by the hospital authority and added that those responsible have been suspended and necessary action has been taken, mentioned news agency ANI. 

The blast was reported at BDD Chawl 3, Kamgar Vasahat on Ganpatrao Jadhav Marg, Worli. During this mishap, four individuals that included the said infant suffered injuries.

The four-month-old was named Mangesh Puri. The others injured were Anand Puri (27), Vidya Puri (25) and Vishnu Puri (5). Earlier, narratives had remarked that whilst Anand was critical, Vidya and Vishnu were stable.

Previously, BJP group leader in BMC, Prabhakar Shinde wrote to the Municipal Commissioner, claiming that the child lost his life owing to the carelessness of the doctors at Nair Hospital.

Shinde alleged that the child was admitted to Nair Hospital earlier, but due to negligence, he was later shifted to Kasturba Hospital.

In light of this, certain BJP members of the BMC health committee had also put in their resignations to condemn the death.
