A gas leak from a chemical factory in Badlapur was reported on Thursday night, June 3, creating panic in the area.
According to reports, the incident took place around 10:22 pm at a factory called Nobel Intermediates Pvt, at Shirgaon MIDC, in the Aptewadi area. The cause of the leakage is believed to be overheating.
Many people living around the unit faced difficulty breathing for a few hours, an official said on Friday, June 4.
A video of the incident, released by news agency ANI, shows air filled with fumes.

Upon receiving the information, the fire brigade rushed to the spot and inspected the area.
As per the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), the gas leak was stopped by the fire brigade at 11:24 pm on Thursday and the situation was soon brought under control.
“A chemical reaction due to the overheating of sulfuric acid and benzyl acid led to the incident. As a result, residents living in 3 km area around the factory complained of breathing problem and irritation in eyes for a few hours," Santosh Kadam, chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell of Thane Municipal Corporation was quoted by PTI.
Meanwhile, Badlapur civic officials inspected the factory and said the gas is not toxic.
