Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced on Monday, November 10 that Ghodbunder Road will become completely congestion-free by January 2026, once key infrastructure works such as the reconstruction of Gaimukh Ghat, service road connectivity, Amrut water pipeline installation, and relocation of MSEDCL power lines are completed.

The minister was speaking at a review meeting on various development projects within the Thane Municipal Corporation area, held at the Arvind Pendse Auditorium in the TMC headquarters. The meeting was attended by Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, MMRDA Joint Commissioner Astik Kumar Pandey, Additional Commissioner Prashant Rode, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Pankaj Shirsat, and other officials from the TMC, MMRDA, Metro, PWD, Collector’s Office, and MHADA. Representatives from Justice for Ghodbunder Road were also present.

During the meeting, the Justice for Ghodbunder Road team presented issues related to the route. After reviewing their presentation, Minister Sarnaik sought updates from MMRDA, TMC, Metro, and PWD officials on the ongoing works. He directed that the reconstruction of Gaimukh Ghat be carried out in coordination with traffic police and that repairs and resurfacing of flyovers along Ghodbunder Road be completed simultaneously.

He further instructed that after the Gaimukh Ghat work is completed, the handover of Ghodbunder Road to Thane Municipal Corporation should be expedited.

Minister Sarnaik also stated that several ongoing development projects in Thane, now in their final stages, will be inaugurated by the end of November and mid-December.

Projects under review included community halls, beautification of creeks and gardens, Upvan’s Dighe Gymkhana, Anandibai Joshi Hospital, women’s hostel, training and administrative buildings, sports complexes, libraries, and market and lake redevelopment projects in various localities such as Vartaknagar, Majiwada, Kasarvadavli, Bhayandar Pada, and Anandnagar.
