The eight-member committee appointed in the Goregaon Unnat Nagar fire case has recommended that the evacuation of buildings under the slum rehabilitation scheme should no longer have mesh doors, as per the report by Loksatta. During fire accidents there is scope for fire and smoke to spread from the lift. It is therefore recommended that the evacuation in such buildings should be made compulsory with closed steel doors.

A fire broke out at the Jai Bhawani SRA Co-operative Society on October 6, 2023 in Goregaon. An eight-member committee has submitted a preliminary inquiry report to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner (BMC) and Administrator Iqbal Singh Chahal in connection with this incident. The committee has suggested 15 measures to prevent recurrence of fire incidents in future. It has recorded these important observations regarding the lift. Chahal has accepted the report submitted by the committee.

After the Goregaon fire accident, as per the order of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, the BMC Commissioner has ordered the Additional Municipal Commissioner (Western Suburbs) to conduct a preliminary inquiry and submit a report. It was given to Sudhakar Shinde.  A committee of eight officers was formed under the chairmanship of Sudhakar Shinde. The committee also included officials of Municipal Corporation Officers, Police, Slum Rehabilitation, Fire Officer, MHADA and other authorities and agencies. This committee has made various suggestions. It has been instructed about the lift.

Due to the high proportion of flats on all floors in the building, the developer should provide common open space and more than one staircase on each floor in the building. Similarly, it is also recommended that the width of the stairs should be more than 2 metres. Allocation of parking space for two-wheeler and four-wheeler vehicles of the residents in the rehabilitation building and sales building has also been mentioned.

In many rehabilitation buildings, the occupants are given possession before getting the occupancy certificate. As such buildings do not have occupancy certificates, a certificate (Form-B) is not required as per fire department procedure. However, an important suggestion has also been made that the fire brigade should develop regulations regarding inspection/verification as per 'Form-B' even in such buildings.
