The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted torrential rains in Mumbai and Konkan in the next few days.

Moreover, the warning was issued as a low-pressure area is forming in the Bay of Bengal. In addition, heavy rains are also expected in sparse places in the next 3 to 4 days. The IMD has also issued a 'yellow alert', denoting "heavy rain in isolated places” for Palghar, Thane, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts between August 16 and 18.

On the other hand, whilst the average rainfall this monsoon is at 2205.8 mm, 2052.7 mm of this rainfall was registered at the Santacruz observatory. With two more months left this monsoon season, 7% of the remaining seasonal target is yet to be addressed.

Reports further enunciate that whilst the Colaba observatory of IMD, documented no rainfall, its counterpart, the Santacruz observatory logged 4.3mm, which is considered as light rain. Additionally, it is mentioned that the majority of the rainfall this season has come in the form of heavy rains, which make their presence felt for a few hours.

This phenomenon, invariably leads to water-logging, causing the loss of lives and property. Many landslides were also reported in the city. Between July 17-18, IMD’s Santacruz observatory administered 235mm of rainfall, and 253 mm of rainfall was recorded by it between July 16-17. In 24 hours, from June 9-10, it recorded 231.3mm.
