As the number of coronavirus infection continues to rise, the Thane district administration has imposed a curfew after 8 pm.

Protesting against this decision, Hotel and Restaurant owners' association have decided to ban the sale of liquor in hotels or restaurants across the Thane district until the restrictions are lifted.

The sale of liquor in hotels and restaurants in Thane city, Kalyan, Dombivali, Navi Mumbai will no longer be allowed.

Hotel and restaurant owners have demanded that excise fees be allowed to be paid in instalments and that the curfew, which was imposed after 8 pm, be lifted. Until these demands are met, the sale of liquor will be stopped, said a member of the association.

Earlier, the Maharashtra government ordered restaurants, malls, cinema halls and public places to shut down by 8 pm. The restrictions also stop more than five people from gathering together in public places after 8 pm.

Besides, the government had earlier directed the authorities to not function with more than 50 per cent of capacity in malls, restaurants and hotels.
