Elphinstone stampede - Kin of deceased receives ex gratia amount at doorstep

Within 24 hours of the deadly stampede which left 23 people dead on the Elphinstone bridge, the Indian Railways distributed ex gratia payment to the kin of deceased. For the same, officers travelled to different parts of the country. 

According to the statement released by Western Railway, on the day of the accident, they disbursed INR 15,000 to the families of victims.  

Mukul Jain, DRM of Mumbai division of WR, said that they had opened a special counter at KEM Hospital to give away cash to the kin of the deceased. He added that railway staffers not only went to Pune and Sangli but Allahabad as well, to hand over the cheques. Along with this, they handed over cheques to the injured as well. In total, they disbursed INR 34 lakhs to the families of the victims and injured patients.  

On September 28, a day before Dussehra, 23 people lost their lives in a stampede which took place on an Elphinstone bridge.
