In the aftermath of a power outage in Mumbai on Sunday, February 27, Maharashtra could face a load shedding in the coming days owing to low inventories of coal, claim reports.

Officials have been quoted in accounts, elaborating on how the supply bottlenecks impacted their capacity to curate a buffer stock of coals for the monsoon during which the supply is impacted.

According to accounts, coal stocks at certain thermal power stations of the Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited have dipped to levels that are claimed to only be able to last a day or so. Coal-based thermal power accounts for a considerable power generation for the body.

Based on narratives, energy minister Nitin Raut urged consumers to pay their electricity bills in time, while remarking that payment defaults provoked a financial crisis. In accordance with a report by the Hindustan Times, stocks at the Bhusawal and Parli power stations are at a one and one-and-half day low, respectively.

Similarly, Nashik's Eklahare plant will last two days. On the other hand, Khaparkheda will last 12 days, Chandrapur and Koradi will last six days and Paras will last two days.

Earlier on February 27, a power outage hit many parts of Mumbai following the tripping of the Mulund-Trombay. While the supply was restored by 10.45 am, the Minister of Power, Raut announced a high-level probe into the same.
