Maharashtra: COVID-19 recoveries witness increase

In Maharashtra, the recovery rate for the coronavirus has gone up to 93.04 per cent with 7,486 people recovering from the disease on Sunday, December 6.

The COVID-19 graph which had witnessed a hike is on the verge of a decline again. On Sunday, December 6, 7,486 people recovered from the coronavirus taking the count of recoveries in the state to 17,23,370, the department said in a statement.

Moreover, the recovery rate is 93.04. In the last 24 hours, 4,757 new patients were added. In addition, the number of patients undergoing treatment for COVID-19 has also come down to 80,000.

Maharashtra, on Sunday, December 6, Maharashtra reported 4,757 fresh cases of the coronavirus taking the COVID-19 tally in the state to 18,52,266. Moreover, 40 people succumbed to the disease which pushed the cumulative toll to 47,734. As a result, the state now has 80,079 active cases. On the other hand, the city of Mumbai reported 786 fresh cases of the coronavirus in the day and 13 fatalities, taking the caseload to 2,86,053 and the fatality tally to 10,896, respectively. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) added 1,488 new cases, taking the overall caseload to 6,40,005 and 18,607 fatalities. Meanwhile, Nashik city reported 163 fresh cases, Pune 263, Pimpri Chinchwad 111, Nagpur 390 and Aurangabad 96.

Meanwhile, with regards to the vaccine for the disease, Serum Institute of India has asked for the government approval for emergency use authorisation of the coronavirus vaccine that it is developing with the University of Oxford and British drugmaker AstraZeneca. The Pune-based pharmaceutical company is the second to do so after American firm Pfizer sought approval from the drug regulator, the DCGI (Drugs Controller General of India) - for its vaccine for the coronavirus which has been cleared by the United Kingdom and Bahrain.
