Strict restrictions under 'Break the chain' initiative extended till June 1: CMO Maharashtra

The State Government of Maharashtra government on Thursday, May 13, 2021, extended the ongoing lockdown until June 1, 2021. Information regarding the same was shared on CMO's official Twitter handle which stated that the restrictions imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19 have been extended until 7am on June 1, 2021.

 The government earlier imposed the lockdown until May 15, 2021, with a motive to 'break the chain' and the same helped in containing the spread of the virus. COVID-19 cases across the state reduced significantly, and to continue the trend, the government has imposed some more restrictions. As per the revised guidelines, the government has made it mandatory to present the COVID-19 test report (RT-PCR) for all travellers to the state.

The ongoing lockdown has had a positive effect on the state, and the daily coronavirus cases across the state have dropped drastically. As of Wednesday, May 12, 2021,  the state reported just over 30,000 active cases. Sharing more information, State Health Minister, Rajesh Tope added that the average daily growth rate also stands at 0.8 per cent, which is half of the national average.

PTI quoted Minister Tope where he said, "Maharashtra's Covid-19 growth rate is merely half of the country's daily growth rate. The state's per day growth rate is 0.8 per cent as against the country's rate of 1.4 per cent. The state is carrying out around two lakh tests on a daily basis while per million testings is around 2.50 lakh. It is a very good sign for us.

"Furthermore, he added that the COVID-19 has not yet stabilised, however, the restrictions will help in ensuring the 'break the chain' initiative is successful, and the trend is yet to be seen in some more districts of Maharashtra. As of now, some parts of the state still report over 10 per cent of active COVID-19 cases, and the officials are working hard to curb the spread in those districts.
