Hours after the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) witnessed unusual power cut during peak hour, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday spoke to state Energy Minister Nitin Raut and directed that immediate efforts should be made to restore power supply in the affected areas.

Due to the power cut in Mumbai, the local train services on central and western railways were brought to halt for nearly two hours. However, train services have been resumed now.

Thackeray has directed the suburban railway to coordinate with the railway administration for providing relief to the affected passengers. He has also directed Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) chief Iqbal Singh Chahal to provide uninterrupted power supply to hospitals.

“The Chief Minister directed the Chief Secretary that the control rooms & fire brigade should be vigilant & provide immediate assistance to prevent any accidents due to power cut,” CMO Maharashtra tweeted.

Meanwhile, Raut said that the reason behind the power cut in the MMR region will be investigated and strict action will be taken against those involved in the lapse. He has informed that the power supply to all essential services in Mumbai and its suburbs has been restored. Moreover, the power supply to railways has also been restored.

“Power supply to all essential services in Mumbai,Mumbai Suburbs,  Kalyan, Thane,Palghar & New Mumbai have been restored. Non essential services will also be restored shortly (sic),” the minister tweeted.

The power cuts happened due to the technical glitch in circuit 2 of Kalwa-Padghe power station, Raut said while informing that the repair and maintenance work was underway at Circuit 1.
