In a recent announcement, the government of Maharashtra has given a reason to feel a bit relieved amid the coronavirus outbreak. With many thinking about lifestyle and professional concerns, the government has announced that for the next five years, people in the city will see an average of 8 per cent electricity tariff cut. 

The announcement was made on Monday by the government of Maharashtra with an aim to help people during the COVID-19 crisis. Officials have also given benefits to farmers, and they will have to contend with a 1 per cent reduction in the fare. Further, private firms - like Adani Energy and Tata Power - which provide electricity have been asked to cut their charges by 18-20 per cent. The commercial establishments will see a difference of 19-20 per cent and residents will see by 10-11 per cent

This move is taken by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) and is said to be first such tariff cut in 10-15 years, where people will be able to see an average of 7-8 per cent reduction in the bills. This decision is also taken by the policymakers after understanding the current scenario of the current pandemic. 

The change will benefit both Industrial consumers and residents in Maharashtra, where they will see a tariff cut of 10-12 per cent and 5-7 per cent respectively.
