State govt. approves INR 250 crore for tourism development

The decision was taken by Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, at a meeting held on July 15. As per reports, the tourism department has planned several projects across Maharashtra.

Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, on Thursday, July 15, 2021, directed immediate disbursement of INR 250 crore for the development of tourist destinations in the state. As per reports, the department has been planning attractions and projects in locations like Mahabaleshwar, Ekvira Devasthan, Lonar Sarovar, Ashtavinayak, Konkan beaches, etc. He also approved the appointment of District Tourism Officers across ten important districts of the state. This will be performed on a pilot basis initially. 

Besides this, officials from the government also decided to encourage the establishment of tourism societies in the districts which will involve private organizations in tourism development. A special meeting was held for the same, at the Ministry, under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar who reviewed the tourism development projects in the state which can help boost the sector.

Minister for Tourism Aaditya Thackeray, Minister of State for Tourism Aditi Tatkare, Principal Secretary for Tourism Valsa Nair Singh, Principal Secretary for Finance Rajgopal Deora and other senior officials were present.

The state cabinet, on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, approved the state's adventure tourism policy. Keeping the same in mind, a meeting was chaired by DCM Pawar who announced important decisions for the development of tourism in the state. Besides the disbursement of 25 per cent of the budgetary funds in phases, a total of INR 72 crore will be given for the completed works. Authorities also decided that experts working in the field of agro-tourism should be consulted while appointing district tourism officers on an experimental basis and on a contract basis.

As per the adventure tourism policy, the organizers  in the state will be given a temporary registration certificate from the Directorate of Tourism and a final registration certificate after obtaining all the required qualifications. These organizers will have to be vigilant as per the provisions mentioned in the policy which talks about the safety of tourists. Both State and divisional level committees will be formed for effective implementation of the same, and will consist of experts with thorough subject knowledge.
