Reports have recently been doing the rounds that the Maharashtra government is likely to ease the COVID-19 curbs soon. Some narratives go on to claim that an order about the same could be made in the next few days.

According to a report by the Hindustan Times, Aseem Gupta, principal secretary, relief and rehabilitation department stated that after the directives issued from the Centre, discussions have commenced over the possible easing of restrictions.

The official was quoted by the report adding that a meeting is anticipated to be conducted with the chief secretary and concerned parties post which a proposal will be sent to the state chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Earlier this week, the central government asked all states and union territories to review and change or end additional COVID-19 restrictions since the pandemic in India is indicating a consistent downward trend.

Additionally, Mumbai managed to maintain its record of zero deaths linked to coronavirus for the third consecutive day thereby keeping the overall fatality toll intact at 16,685 on Thursday, February 17.

According to the data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on the same day, the city reported 259 new COVID-19 cases.

Moreover, Maharashtra also logged no new case of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. On the same day, Maharashtra saw yet another spike in single-day COVID-19 cases after 2,797 people tested positive for the virus.
