On Tuesday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray re-introduced the relief package announced for the tribal community last year amidst the coronavirus pandemic. The CM had announced assistance of ₹4,000 per family per month in June 2020.
As per this proposal, ₹2,000 was to be transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account while goods and essentials like rice, pulses, wheat, and so on worth ₹2,000 was to be offered to eligible families.

Maharashtra is home to 1.1 crore members of the tribal community and this new relief package is expected to cover around 45 to 50 lakh tribals.
Tribal Development Minister, K.C. Padavi acknowledged that the proposal didn’t come to fruition last year due to a combination of administrative hurdles and the financial crisis brought on by the pandemic. Speaking to TOI, Padavi said that the process of sending financial relief to tribals has already begun.
