As the instances of coronavirus cases are increasing every day, the healthcare infrastructure is proving to be inadequate due to the growing number of COVID-19 patients.

According to sources, the supply of oxygen for the treatment of the COVID-19 patients has almost been depleted. Currently, India is grappling with the second wave of coronavirus infections that has caught the federal and state governments unprepared, with local media reporting that patients are dying due to a shortage of oxygen and hospital beds. Moreover, the state of Maharashtra is home to the financial hub of Mumbai where the fresh outbreak is most severe.

In addition, this persistent rise in cases has left the government worried about the situation due to which State Health Minister Rajesh Tope had spoken with the Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan in order to urge him to let neighbouring states send oxygen cylinders to Maharashtra, where more and more hospitals have reported shortage of oxygen cylinders that are crucial for the care of critical patients.

Furthermore, earlier on April 13, as many as 10 patients died in an hour due to lack of oxygen available at Nalasopara's Vinayak Hospital and Riddhivinayak Hospital. Officials state that this led to chaos at the hospital whereupon knowing the news, relatives of the deceased rushed to the hospital in order to express their anger. However, the hospital administration has claimed that the patients suffering from the coronavirus died due to critical conditions and not due to the lack of oxygen supply by the abovementioned hospitals.
