The state government of Maharashtra, under theChief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's initiative for farmers, has implemented the 'Producer to Direct Consumer' scheme across various districts in the state. The same was announced in the presence of the Agriculture Department, for the first time in Mumbai whereby a festival for Vegetables and Agricultural Goods has been organized on August 28, 2021 in Mulund.

CM's 'Vikel te Pikel' campaign has seen successful results and has benefited the farmers in the state. The festival in Mumbai has been organized to spread the taste and value  of various vegetables grown in the rainy season across Maharashtra. Officials believe this will interest Mumbaikars and will also encourage the people from the tribal groups to sell their food grains and processed agricultural products to other districts.

As of now, the tribal societies are dependent on forest production to become economically viable. Several legumes are grown by these groups, and among the popular produce are tubers, greens, fruits and vegetables which grow in abundance during the rainy season and are highly beneficial for one's health keeping their medicinal properties in mind. The importance of the produce will be shared with the groups during this festival. Besides this, the motive is also to generate a source of income for the tribals, whereby various types of legumes will be put up for sale from Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Nashik districts.
