Heavy rain in the first two weeks of May has impacted the supply of vegetables in Mumbai and pushed up the market prices.
In the retail market, green gram (mung bean) is sold at INR 120 to INR 140 per kg. Mumbai’s Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) has seen a decline in revenue since last week. Besides, in one fortnight, the price of onion has seen around 40 to 50 per cent rise in the wholesale market and even the retail price has also started rising, reports suggested.
As per the market administration, nearly 400 trucks laden with vegetables are arriving at the wholesale market every day.
Amla, which was selling at INR 35-55 per kg in the wholesale market last week, has gone up to INR 50-55 per kg. While it is being sold at INR 70-80 per kg in the retail market.
Green beans rates have gone up from INR 80-INR 100 to INR 100- INR 120. In Mumbai, vegetables are being imported from Pune, Satara, Nashik and other places.
