As the auditoriums and cinema halls are set to reopen from October 22 across Maharashtra, the state government led by Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday, October 11, issued fresh guidelines to be followed amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

This decision by the Maharashtra government came after the state reported 1,736 new cases of coronavirus, which marked the lowest daily count in nearly 17 months.

The SOPs include:

1. The occupancy of the cinemas, theatres, multiplexes and auditorium shall not be more than 50 per cent of their total seating capacity.

2. It is mandatory for all the visitors to show ‘safe status’ on Aarogya Setu App or in the alternative visitors can show the final COVID-19 vaccination certificate.

3. All staff including those employed at food court/cleaning services must have received two doses of vaccine and 14 days must have elapsed since the second dose.

4. Everyone will have to maintain at least a 6 feet distance outside auditoriums and common areas. Moreover, face covers or masks will be mandatory and seats that are 'Not to be occupied' will be marked.

5. Management should keep staggered show timings for multiplexes to avoid crowding.

6. Digital or no-contact payment methods should be used for booking tickets, payment for food and beverages.

7. Moreover, proper crowd management in parking lots should be checked. Mandatory thermal screening of visitors and restricted persons in elevators have been advised.

8. Regular Covid-appropriate behaviour including physical distancing, covering of face while coughing/sneezing, regular hand sanitization etc., are also enforced.

9. No outside food and beverages will be allowed inside the screening hall. Purchased packaged food and beverages will be allowed only outside the screening hall.

There are specific SOPs for drama theatres:

1. Only designated people shall be allowed to operate curtain, backstage property etc.

2. It is recommended that the cast and crew should regularly have their medical check-ups. Moreover, child artists have to use Aarogya Setu App to show safe status. Their regular checkup has also been recommended.

3. Daily sanitization of the sets, green rooms and auditorium should be conducted by the management.

4. Strictly no guests allowed at the backstage/green rooms.
