Malad's building collapse: Families of deceased to get ₹4 lakh each

Maharashtra Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray announced ₹4 lakh ex-gratia each for the families of the deceased and order the administration to provide all kind of relief to those affected.

Two people including a child died after a portion of a building or chawl collapsed in Malvani area of Mumbai’s Malad. The incident happened at one of the old tenements near Malvani gate number 5, where a part of the three-storey chawl collapsed around 2.30 pm.

As this happened, Maharashtra Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray announced ₹4 lakh ex-gratia each for the families of the deceased. In his capacity as the guardian minister of Mumbai suburbs, Thackeray ordered the administration to provide all kind of assistance to those affected in the incident at Malad’s Malvani area. 


Amid a heavy downpour, a three-storey chawl collapsed at 2:30 in the morning on Thursday. The locals were troubled due to the chaos in the area after the incident. The Mumbai Fire Brigade rushed to the spot after receiving information about the mishap. The rescue operation began soon after four fire trucks, one rescue van and ambulance reached the spot.  

The firefighters were able to rescue 15 people who sustained injuries and rushed them to the nearest hospital, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. However, two persons died due to the building collapse. 

In another incident on Thursday, A ground plus five-storey building named 'Bhanushali' collapsed amid a heavy downpour near Lucky House in south Mumbai’s Fort area. As this happened, the personnel from disaster management and fire brigade rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation.  

As per the latest information, the death toll has increased to six as the rescue operations continued till Friday morning. Upon receiving the information, the personnel from the fire brigade and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rushed to the spot.
