From the 6,213 grievances received by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in the Mumbai region concerning financial misconduct in official transactions, between January 1, 2019, to October 5, 2021, a mere 213 inquires were ordered, highlighted reports.

In regards to them, only one FIR was lodged, 38 cases were closed whilst 174 were pending. These are other than those related to disproportionate assets as well as traps. These were majorly while accepting bribes.

According to accounts, the authority prominently logs grievances in three sections which are namely misconduct, disproportionate assets and trap which is usually bribe-taking.

This information was obtained by RTI activist, Jeetendra Ghadge. It is believed that the ACB prominently focuses on cases of trap wherein an individual is caught red-handed accepting a bribe.

In cases of red-handed arrest cases of 109, the conviction rate was inadequate. There were a mere four convictions, whilst in 15 cases, data brought to light that the accused were acquitted.

A report by the Times of India quoted Additional CP, ACB, Mumbai region Laxmi Gautam who elaborated that according to section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018, an inquiry cannot be undertaken in regards to criminal misconduct without prior permission of the government. This is applicable if the issue is in regards to a public servant.
