The corpus in the Maharashtra Chief Minister COVID-19 relief fund has surged to INR 799 crore which is nearly double than what it was six months ago. From that, the Maharashtra government’s fund distribution is at INR 192 crore which is 24 per cent, stated Anil Galgali, who got the information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, mentioned accounts.

Galgali’s RTI doubt brought to light that INR 606.3 crore was left unused. According to the response, expenditure worth INR 82.4 crore was undertaken on the fare of migrant labourers from a total of 36 districts.

This was followed by expenses amounting to INR 49.8 crore which was provided to sex workers for coronavirus care. Based on reports, expenses undertaken for migrant labourers was sent to the concerned collectors so that the railway expenses could be paid for.

The state machinery had curated the CM’s COVID-19 relief fund to assist the authorities in addressing the impact of the pandemic. It had urged the citizens to donate money to it to help the community.

Additionally, the donations provided also attain an income-tax waiver under Section 80(G). The RTI activist has also written to CM Uddhav Thackeray asking that the COVID-19 funds be utilized to ameliorate healthcare services.
