According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) environment report 2018-19, 26,453 people in Mumbai reside in one sq. km. This makes Mumbai a second most populated city in the world which has 12.78 million population.

As per a report by United Nations Habitat Data in 2018, Mumbai is the second most populated city in the world after Bangladesh capital, Dhaka with 44,500 people living in one sq. km area.

Meanwhile, the third most populated city in the world is Medellin in Colombia living 19,700 people in an sq km.

Amongst the 24 municipal wards of Mumbai, the most populated in the city is the P/North Ward which majorly covers Malad with more than 9.67 lakh people residing. On the other hand, the least populated ward is the B-ward which consists of Dongri, living 1.30 lakh people.

Meanwhile, the environment report that will be tabled next week in the upcoming general body meeting states that the population density of Mumbai can cause a serious impact on the environment.
