On June 3, there was widespread panic among Mumbaikars as a cyclonic storm Nisarga was to make landfall near Mumbai. This is the first cyclone to reach Mumbai after 129 years and as per experts, climate change is said to be the reason for the same. However, the city escaped Cyclone Nisarga's wrath and there has been no loss of life was recorded in Mumbai. Mumbaikars did complain of high-intensity winds, some flying roofs and yes even broken trees that caused damage to cars parked on the streets. While the cyclone may have been done and dusted but rains are here to stay.

During the early hours of Thursday, many part os Mumbai experienced heavy rainfall. Other than Mumbai, the areas in Mumbai Metropolitan Region also received heavy rainfall between 8:00 am to 11:00 am. The pre-monsoon rainfall resulted in waterlogging in several low-lying areas in the city. Sion and Kings Circle were some of the worst-affected areas where the people had to wake up to waterlogged streets on Thursday.

Here is a glimpse of waterlogging at Kings Circle:

Kings Circle local corporator, Rajeshri Shirwadkar told the Times of India that the water in the area had receded within an hour. She added that since the Kings CIrcle area is a low line, water from other areas gets accumulated near the police stations during heavy rainfall. She also asked BMC to hurry up the work at Mahul pumping station which will assist in clearing excess water from the area during heavy rainfall.

The waterlogging in these areas raises concerns about the preparations that are being made by the civic body prior to the onset of monsoon in the city.

Meanwhile, barring instances of the tree falling in some area, Mumbai managed to remain unhinged due to cyclone Nisarga. Luckily for Mumbaikars, Nisarga's trajectory was altered after landfall in Alibaug. The cyclone moved northeastwards and weakened into a depression.
