Mumbai Monsoons: Orange alert issued for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar

In a district-wise forecast, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar for Monday and Tuesday. The IMD warned of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall along the west coast of Maharashtra and the southern states on Monday. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of India also warned the citizens of incessant rainfall quoting IMD.

The orange alert has been issued to warn the citizens to be prepared. The remaining districts of the west coast, parts of central Maharashtra as well as isolated areas of Vidarbha and Marathwada are also to receive incessant rainfall. Heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely in Goa and Konkan region during the next 24 hours which has also been predicted. It has been three days since the arrival of monsoons over the southern part of Maharashtra. On Sunday, it covered Mumbai and the remaining parts of the state.

In the city of Mumbai, on Saturday, the Santacruz observatory recorded 19.7 mm of rain and the Colaba observatory recorded 11.2 mm of rainfall. As per the IMD, torrential rains to very heavy rains in Nashik, Pune, Kolhapur and Satara districts can be witnessed on Tuesday. The monsoon is expected to reach the North Arabian Sea, parts of Madhya Pradesh including Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar and other parts of Uttar Pradesh in the next 48 hours. On Sunday, the monsoon had entered the Central Arabian Sea, parts of Gujarat, parts of Maharashtra, Mumbai, parts of Madhya Pradesh, parts of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar.

However, according to the information shared by the meteorological departments, the monsoon on June 14 has rapidly covered the whole state of Maharashtra. In the next 5 days, good rains are expected in Konkan, Central Maharashtra and Vidarbha. The average rainfall till Sunday was 386.22 mm. The city of Mumbai is expected to receive incessant rains from Monday.
