IMD predicts heavy rainfall in and around Mumbai on Sunday

It has been a wet Friday and Saturday for people living in Mumbai and it seems that Sunday will be no different. While the IMD predicts a cloudy sky with isolate rainfall across the region, it has also The predicted 'heavy rain at isolated places' in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Aurangabad for Sunday.

Earlier in the week, the Indian Meteorological Department had predicted that monsoon may be arriving in Mumbai by June 13 and added that the conditions are favourable for further advancement in parts of Maharashtra in the coming 48 hours. Therefore, Maharashtra is all set to receive continuous rainfall across the state approximately between June 12 to 14. As per the IMD bulletin, enhanced rainfall activity is expected over the west coast which includes Mumbai, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha the next two to three days.

Earlier, Heavy to very heavy rainfall was witnessed in Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada on Thursday. Heavy rainfall was recorded at Parbhani (190 mm), Palam (90 mm), Bhum, Manvat and Pathri (70 mm each) and Latur (60 mm) in Marathwada and Madha and Pandharpur (80 mm each) and Barshi (60 mm) in Madhya Maharashtra.

The scattered rainfall from the last couple of days has helped bring down the temperature of the city. The maximum temperature recorded at the Santacruz station in Mumbai on Monday was a maximum of 32.4 degree Celcius and minimum 26.6-degree Celcius. The Colaba station, on the other hand, recorded a maximum temperature of 32 degree Celcius and min 26.7 degree Celcius.

On average, Mumbai receives 2,354 mm of rainfall in the monsoon months of June to September. The maximum rainfall is received in July. This year with the coronavirus outbreak, the monsoon are expected to be even more challenging than they usually are. The CM of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray had earlier asserted that arrangements have been made so that food grains and medicines can be provided in remote areas during the monsoon season.
