Mumbai records 77mm rainfall in 8 hours; Check the list of other places in Maharashtra

According to the IMD’s seven-day forecast for the city, overcast skies and intermittently heavy and moderately intense showers are on the anvil till at least July 4, after which there may be some respite from the rain.

In an usual observation, Mumbai's regional meteorological department (RMC) has recorded 77 mm of rain in just about eight hours between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm on Wednesday, June 28. Rainfall activity is all set to cross three digits in less than 24 hours for Mumbai, it further stated.

Dahisar in Mumbai and Bhayandar in Thane district were among the most affected areas by rain on Wednesday, recording 154.5mm and 128mm rainfall, respectively.

Juhu airport received 71.5mm of rain, while the IMD’s coastal weather station in Colaba also recorded 77mm of rain in the same duration.

It is pertinent to note that the city has since June 1 received 458mm of rain, against the 526.3mm average for the month.

According to the IMD’s seven-day forecast for the city, overcast skies and intermittently heavy and moderately intense showers are on the anvil till at least July 4, after which there may be some respite from the rain.

Moreover, waterlogging, traffic chaos, flight delays is also likely to be accompanied with the heavy rains.

While the beginning of the month of June was not that great for, the last few days have turned out to be much better, especially after the onset of the southwest monsoon over the region. Earlier, it seemed a daunting task to reach its monthly target of rains for June owing to delayed monsoon in Mumbai as well as across Maharashtra.

The city has been seeing moderate to heavy rains for the past 3 to 4 days and a similar situation is expected to continue even in the coming days. For the next few days, a similar situation in Mumbai wherein heavy rainfall will become a regular feature. 

In the wake of this, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rains in six districts of Maharashtra, issuing an `orange alert'. The six districts include Thane, Raigad, Palghar (all three adjoining Mumbai), Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Nashik. Additionally, the weather department has indicated the likelihood of heavy to very rainfall at a few places.

However, a ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued in Mumbai with a warning of heavy rainfall which is likely to continue in the city till Friday, June 30.
