Mumbai: Section 144 of CrPC Extended Till January 15

Mumbai Police has prohibited citizens from visiting beaches, open grounds, sea faces, promenades, gardens, parks, or similar public places, from 5 pm to 5 am.

On Friday, December 31, restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC in Mumbai were extended till Jan 15. In light of this, the Mumbai Police has prohibited citizens from visiting beaches, open grounds, sea faces, promenades, gardens, parks, or similar public places, from 5 pm to 5 am, reported news agency ANI.

Apart from this, the restrictions imposed include:

  • In marriages in enclosed or open spaces, the maximum number of attendees will be restricted to 50 people.
  • In gatherings, programs either social, cultural, political or religious, in enclosed or open spaces the maximum number of attendees will be restricted to 50 people.
  • In the last rites, the maximum number of attendees will be restricted to 20 people.
  • All previous instructions in force shall be in action until further orders.  

This order comes into force in areas under the Commissioner of Police, Greater Mumbai's areas from 1 pm of Friday, December 31, 2021 and remains in force until 12.00 am of January 15, 2022, unless withdrawn prior.

Any individual found flouting this order will be punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code 1860 as well as the penal provisions under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 and National Disaster Management Act 2005 amongst other legal provisions wherever applicable.
