The construction of MumbaiThane Metro Line 4A has been fully completed, and the project has now moved into its final phase, which includes inspections, testing, and safety certification. This development marks a major milestone in Mumbai’s expanding metro network and brings the project closer to being opened for public use.

Metro Line 4A is part of the larger Metro Line 4 and 4A corridor, which will connect Gaimukh in Thane to Wadala in Mumbai, significantly improving east–west connectivity and easing pressure on congested road routes. The newly completed section covers a key stretch between Gaimukh and Cadbury Junction, an area that currently experiences heavy traffic during peak hours.

According to officials, all structural work has been completed, while interior and system-related installations such as escalators, elevators, ticketing systems, electrical wiring, signaling, and communication systems are in their final stages. Work at most stations is nearly finished, and the remaining tasks are being completed rapidly.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has submitted a proposal to the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) for technical and safety inspections. Once the RDSO completes its evaluation, the project will move on to statutory safety certification and trial runs. These steps are mandatory before passenger services can begin.

Officials have stated that, after receiving all necessary approvals, the metro line is expected to become operational in the coming months. Once opened, Metro Line 4A is expected to reduce travel time between Mumbai and Thane to approximately 15–20 minutes, offering a fast, safe, and reliable alternative to road transport.

The new metro corridor is expected to provide major relief to daily commuters, reduce traffic congestion, lower pollution levels, and improve overall urban mobility in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Authorities believe the project will play a crucial role in strengthening public transport infrastructure and supporting sustainable urban development.

The official date for the commencement of passenger services will be announced after all inspections and certifications are successfully completed.
