Mumbaikars woke to a chilly Monday, November 21 as the city begun witnessing a drop in the minimum temperature. It is pertinent to note that Mumbai recorded minimum temperature of 17 degrees Celsius this morning.

Besides, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that the city's days will become cooler since Maharashtra is expected to experience a cold wave.

IMD head scientist Pune, KS Hosalikar tweeted: “Cold wave conditions very likely to occur in isolated pockets in the districts of Nasik, Jalgaon, Ahmednagar, Pune, Aurangabad & Jalna nect 24 hrs.”

Mumbai will have average minimum and maximum temperatures between 19 and 32°C during the next two days, according to the IMD. While temperatures in certain areas of north Maharashtra might fall below 10 °C.

Moreover, a slight drop in temperatures was also observed on Sunday, November 20. As the minimum temperature went to 19 degrees Celsius at IMD’s Santacruz observatory on Sunday, which usually remained between an average of 24-30 degrees Celsius in the past few weeks.

While the humidity levels reduced on Sunday, the amount of dryness in the air has also risen. Along with the cold breeze in the evening, the city’s humidity levels also saw a drop to about 47% at Santacruz, while Colaba experienced a humidity of 60%.

However, it is a well-known fact that as winter approaches the air quality level begins to deteriorate.

Similarly, different parts of the city and metropolitan area had varying levels of good to bad air quality, with Bandra Kurla Complex having an AQI of 229 that fell into the "poor" category.

The city's total AQI, which was 139, was still considered moderate, while the concentrations of PM 2.5 and PM 10 pollutants were 72 and 133, respectively.

The AQI of the city remained in the ‘moderate’ category at 133 yesterday.

Colaba recorded an AQI of 143 which falls in the Moderate category, Worli recorded an AQI of 89 which falls in the Satisfactory category, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) with AQI of 229 under the poor category, Sion with 130 AQI under the Moderate category and Thane had at 156 AQI under the moderate category.
