Mumbai temperature rises; yet to witness winter chills

With the environmental experts predicting a slight dip in the temperatures, Mumbai is yet to experience the chills expected in the winter months.

As per reports, in Mumbai, the maximum temperature was 32.4 degrees Celsius in Colaba and 33.3 degrees Celsius in Santa Cruz on Thursday, November 19. However, the minimum temperature was recorded at 25 degrees Celsius at both the centres.

Along with Mumbai, the mercury has been rising in many places along the Konkan coast. On Thursday, November 19, the maximum temperature at Ratnagiri was recorded at 36 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature in Solapur, Parbhani, Sangli, Kolhapur, Satara, Jalna, Jalgaon and Pune were clocked between 32 and 34 degrees.

On the other hand, the maximum temperature in Yavatmal is 5.9 degrees above average whereas the maximum temperature in Amravati is 4.9 degrees above average. However, the meteorological department has forecasted a slight drop in the maximum temperature in the state in the next two weeks.

The maximum temperature is expected to be below 30 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 14 to 18 degrees Celsius, as per IMD. As a result, the cold snap is likely to intensify once again in the city. Moreover, from December 20, the cold will intensify and the temperature is likely to drop below 5 degrees. Along with Mumbai, Pune's mercury is to hit below 7 degrees Celsius, Nagpur's mercury is below 5 degrees Celsius whereas the temperature in Nashik district can reach zero degrees Celsius.

However, weather experts have opined that even though the temperature may fluctuate between the normal levels due to anticyclone wind patterns, but winter will arrive not sooner than December this year.
