After almost a week of displaying countdown numbers in Marathi at the traffic signals at the APMC Market in Vashi, the numbers have been restored to English again, reported the Hindustan Times.

Earlier, countdown timers for a significant number of traffic signals at the market were showing numbers in the regional language. This is believed to have confused a large amount of motorists since many of them couldn’t comprehend the Marathi figures.

When the initiative was established, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) electrical department officials remarked that they were doing so on a trial basis to understand its feasibility.

Apart from this, they had also stated to consider the motorists' thoughts. Based on this they would undertake the next course of action.

Based on the narrative, they now claimed that the numbers were seen in Marathi owing to a software problem and was not an intentional move.

In other developments, the work on the integrated Vashi bus terminus is hoped to be completed by April 2023. The project is anticipated to transform the loss-making Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) body into a self-sustaining entity. It will also accommodate a commercial complex that has received the required permission.
