Plastic collection campaigns are being implemented in public places through public participation, and sustainable materials production activities are also being implemented from waste. Apart from this, penal action is being taken against those who use restrictive plastic in Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation area. Punitive action is being taken especially on those who use plastic bags.


Accordingly, Deputy Commissioner of Solid Waste Management Department Dr. Babasaheb Rajle, plastic preventive action was taken in the entire Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation area. In this, action was taken against 28 shops and establishments found to be using or stocking plastic bags and prohibited plastic and INR 1 lakh 60 thousand penal amount was recovered. Also, 53 kg plastic bags and restrictive plastic were seized.


In the said action, 30,000 fine and 4 kg of restrictive plastic were seized from 6 shopkeepers in Belapur division, 65,000 penalty amount and 15 kg of restrictive plastic were seized from 11 shopkeepers in Vashi division, 25,000 penalty amount and 22 kg of restrictive plastic were seized from 5 shopkeepers in Turbe division and 6 in Koparkhairane division. Fine of INR 40,000 and 2 kg of prohibited plastic were seized from the shopkeepers. The material seized included large quantities of plastic bags.

The Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has issued a notification to ban the manufacture, trade, stock, distribution, sale and use of single-use plastic items and single-use plastics including polystyrene and expanded polystyrene have also been banned under the revised Solid Waste Management Rules - 2016. In case of violation of this regulation, at the time of first offence INR 5k, in case of second offence INR 10k and at the time of third offence INR 25k and imprisonment for three months has been announced.


However, informed citizens of Navi Mumbai should completely avoid the use of plastic bags and restrictive plastics, which are harmful to the environment and human life, and shopkeepers should also not keep plastic bags available.
