Use Palm Beach as an alternate route, says Navi Mumbai Traffic police; Sion-Panvel road riddled with potholes

Sion-Panvel Highway is named as one of the busiest roads in the country. The flyover on the highway connecting Mumbai and the rest of Maharashtra as well as the state of Goa has suffered huge potholes. As most of the potholes are seen on the Belapur flyover, the Navi Mumbai Traffic Branch has requested that the light vehicles going from Panvel towards Mumbai should use the Palm Beach route from Belapur onwards. The Deputy Commissioner of Police and the Assistant Commissioner have themselves taken to the road to control the traffic here.


There are huge potholes on the flyover at Belapur on the Sion-Panvel route and the route leading to Mumbai has become dangerous. There are pits up to a quarter of a foot and are deep. Drivers fail to predict this. As a result, the car crashes into the ditch. Due to the huge pothole here, there are queues of vehicles up to Kharghar i.e. three to four kilometres in the morning. Thousands of passenger and cargo vehicles coming from Marathwada, West Maharashtra and Goa towards Mumbai after four in the morning. In this case, due to potholes on the Belapur flyover, the speed of vehicles slows down causing a huge traffic jam.

The Public Works Department is frequently filling potholes at this place, but as there is no chance of rain stopping, this solution is proving to be temporary. Meanwhile, PWD claims that if there is a break in rainfall, potholes will be properly covered. 


On Tuesday, July 25 morning in heavy rain at this place, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Branch Tirupati Kakade was seen manning the traffic.
