In a city like Mumbai people mostly prefer fast food. Chinese food stalls are the best option when it comes to spicy and tasty fast food. The strictness of the BMC on the Ajinomoto usage in Chinese food is not taken seriously by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The BMC wrote a letter to the FDA Commissioner on November 18, 2014, in this regard. After that, the FDA has not taken any particular action against Ajinomoto usage.

The BMC had passed the proposal on 20 October 2014 to immediately stop consumption of Ajinomoto in the hotels serving Chinese food in Mumbai. Then opposition leader Devendra Amberkar also demanded a ban on Ajinomoto.
