Potholes have been a consistent and persistent snag for Mumbai citizens as the city that never stops, gets hindered by the potholes on roads during the monsoon season. However, this year, the issue has grown from being just a snag and has claimed the lives of the citizens.

But instead of improving the condition of the roads, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to take no responsibility for the issue. Recently, the municipal corporation refused to compensate people who lost their lives due to potholes. In addition to that, BMC shrugged off the responsibility to provide reimbursement to the victims injured due to the faulty roads.

Shiv Sena Corporator Abhishek Ghosalkar had demanded the formation of a standard legal procedure to compensate the sufferers due to potholes. Accordingly, he had presented a resolution in the Municipal Hall and had asked for the municipal corporation’s views on the resolution. In response, BMC refused to provide any compensation to the deceased or injured victims.

The corporation said that the roads are constructed by BMC via several contractors and therefore, they are not bound to pay any compensation for the death or injury of any citizens. Similarly, the corporation has said that it is not possible to adopt a legal procedure for the same.
