According to a report released jointly by the Mumbai Traffic Control Branch (MTCB) for the initiative of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS), about 611 people died in 2015, and 475 in 2018 due to road accidents.

Road traffic deaths have decreased by 22 per cent in the last four years, but according to the Mumbai Road Safety Report 2018, the death of pedestrians is still a matter of concern.

In addition, the number of casualties in road accidents has also come down. In 2015, 4029 people were injured in road accidents, the same number decreased to 3292 in 2018. It has been said in the report that pedestrians are most affected by road accidents. While the pedestrians account for 51 per cent of total road traffic deaths.

The report further states that the Western Express Highway (WEH) and the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) have remained the most dangerous place in the city. Other 'black spots' of the city were SV Road, Sion Trombay Road, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road and Link Road. However, it has also been claimed in the report that accidents in WEH and EEH have decreased compared to last year.

There were 86 and 48 fatalities in the age group of 20-24 and 25-29 respectively. In total there were 214 fatalities among the age group 20-40.
