In an important update, citizens of Mumbai have been asked to use water sparingly as the lakes that supply water across the city only has 15.54 per cent of water left.
According to sources, the water in the lakes is enough to last for another month and a half. However, if rainfall continues to be intermittent like this, scarcity is likely to occur. Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) supplies 3,800 million litres of water every day. In order to maintain an adequate supply of water throughout the year, it is important for the lakes to have 14,47,000 million litres of water by October 1.
Last year, due to good rainfall, the city did not face any water crisis. Currently, Modak Sagar, Tansa, Vihar, Tulshi, Upper Vaitarna, Madhya Vaitarna and Bhatsa has 2,24,894 million litres of water.

While the urban water crisis in Mumbai has been a continual problem in the city, the people of Mumbai have been facing water shortages several times over the years. However, if the rainfall is good then several lakes are touted to overflow or be filled till the brim and that will ensure an adequate supply of water to Mumbai.
