In a shocking revelation, it was learned that out of the 35 Railway bridges in Mumbai, only six railway bridges are safe enough for accommodation. Amongst these, 17 bridges need minor repairs whereas the rest 12 railway bridges are in critical condition and require major repairs. Accordingly, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that they have begun the tender process for the repair work.

Opposition leader Ravi Raja accused that even after providing ₹114 crore to the Central Railway, there is no improvement in the condition of the ROBs and he revealed that 18 railway bridges in Mumbai are dangerous for accommodation. Speaking about the same, Municipal Corporation’s Bridge Department Engineer Sanjay Darade said that since the last 18 years, BMC had provided Railways with ₹133 crore.

He further added that BMC had given Central Railways ₹114 crore whereas ₹19 crore to Western Railways for the repairs, rebuilding, and construction of new bridges.

Amongst the 35 Railway bridges in Mumbai, only six are in a good condition. However, the matter of concern is that 12 bridges are in an extremely dangerous condition. In order to repair these bridges, BMC has already floated out tenders which consist of bridges such as Dadar’s Tilak Bridge, Elphinstone Bridge, Currey Road Bridge etc.

Alongside, the revelation further showed that out of the 36 pedestrian Railway bridges, only four of them are in good condition. Amongst the other 32 bridges, 26 require minor repairs, four of them need major repairs and two of them are in extremely critical condition
