On Friday, June 25, a portion of a five-storey building in Mumbai’s Fort area reportedly collapsed around 7:55 am amidst ongoing repair work. Meanwhile, the fire brigade has sent eight vehicles to the spot in order to conduct the rescue mission.

According to reports, at least 35 people have been rescued so far. Currently, the rescue operations are underway. However, no injuries have been reported as of now.

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) had been conducting repair work in the five-storey building known as Ashapura. Moreover, the work was in progress when the incident had occurred.

On the other hand, in a tragic development, earlier, at least 11 people, including eight minors, lost their lives after a residential structure collapsed in New Collector Compound on June 9. Another seven people were injured in the incident. In view of the situation, the Maharashtra government on June 10, announced a compensation of INR 5 lakhs for the families of the deceased in the Malad building collapse tragedy. Also, the medical treatment of those injured would be borne by the government.
